Human Resource Policy Statement
Purpose: The people of Air Products are the company's most valuable resource. They are the primary means by which Air Products’ goals and objectives are attained. Air Products acknowledges the rights of its employees and adheres to all local laws throughout its global operations. We are committed to consistently treating employees with respect, fairness and dignity. The purpose of this policy is to define our Human Resource Principles as an expression of our global commitment.
Definition: Human Resource Principles
Our Human Resource Principles refer to basic standards of treatment to which all people are entitled. While these Principles are intended to represent a statement of our own high standards, they also reflect our review of labor standards espoused by human rights groups, leading companies, and other organizations worldwide.
The diverse geographies in which Air Products operates require that Principles such as these be general in nature. In certain situations, local legal requirements including local human rights legislation and collective bargaining agreements may be in addition to these Principles.
Diversity, Equal Opportunity & Harassment
Air Products is committed throughout its global operations to hiring people with varied backgrounds. We recognize and respect the cultural differences found in the worldwide marketplace. The company values diversity and strives to foster an environment that is supportive and appreciative of differences.
Air Products’ goal is to attract, develop, promote, and retain the most qualified people from all cultures and segments of the population globally, based on ability and skills. Air Products fully supports equal opportunity and is committed to complying with all such legislation in countries where we operate. Internal policies are available in applicable regions.
Air Products considers harassment, discrimination and retaliation to be unjust and damaging to our work environment and maintains strong policy against such behavior. Our policy defines our commitment to a respectful work environment free of any manner of harassment, including but not limited to harassment based on race, color, religion, national origin, age, citizenship, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, veteran status, or physical or mental disability. Consequences for violating the policy are also defined.
As a fundamental principle, Air Products does not support the use of child labor. Subject to that principle, we do encourage the creation of training, apprenticeship or intern programs tied to education. Air Products does not hire children under the legal age for employment in any location where we operate.
Forced Labor / Freedom of Engagement
Air Products believes that people should work because they want or need to, not because they are forced to do so. We are against the use of forced labor in any form.
Air Products works diligently to create a culture that affords our employees the opportunity to work without fear of intimidation, reprisal, or harassment. It is the responsibility of managers and leaders, assisted by Human Resources, to maintain positive employee relations. The company abides by an open door policy and strives to provide opportunity for employees to have their questions and concerns resolved in a fair and timely manner.
Some of our employees are represented by officially designated third parties or designated/elected employee representatives. Air Products respects employees’ voluntary freedom of association and right to bargain collectively and complies with pertinent locals laws where we operate.
We seek to provide compensation and benefits that are competitive and comply with applicable law. Our compensation philosophy is communicated and available to employees.
The basis for our security efforts is to protect our employees and the communities in which we work, our operations, and our intellectual property. Security personnel receive training to ensure compliance with legal requirements. Procedures are in place to ensure the timely communication of any threats or security concerns to employees and community agencies and to deal appropriately with issues that may arise.
Health and Safety
We strive to provide and maintain for all employees, and others who may be affected, a safe and healthy working environment that meets or exceeds applicable standards for occupational safety and health.
These Human Resource Principles have been communicated and are accessible to all employees.
Employees who believe that there may have been a violation of these Principles should report it through established channels including but not limited to: the manager of the department in which the violation occurred, any member of Air Products management, the employee’s HR manager, the Equal Employment Opportunity Officer (U.S.), the Global Director of Diversity, or the IntegrityLine – our company compliance assistance line. The IntegrityLine is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Country specific toll-free dialing information to access the Integrity Line, as well as Web access for reporting violations, is found in our Code of Conduct. No retaliatory actions will be taken against any employee who makes such a report or cooperates in an investigation of such a violation.
